Summary of Committees
Membership is not limited to a single committee; we encourage students to check out as many as they can. All SPEC Committees are application free – students may join any committee(s) at any point in time of the semester.
Students must to be apart of a committee first in order to be eligible to apply for a director position of that committee once a position is available. If there are no open director positions, there are still opportunities for students to apply for sub-chair positions within each committee.
Joining a committee is a great opportunity to be involved in the planning process of various exciting events on campus. If you have a creative mind and a passion for uniting students with fun and innovative events, you should reach out to any committee to join.
The 8 committees include:
SPEC Connaissance brings in influential speakers and public figures to speak on campus. Connaissance also co-sponsors speaker events put on by other student groups.
SPEC Film Society arranges free screenings of upcoming and recently released movies, hosts speakers from the film industry, and provides a community for its members to discuss and engage in movie culture.
SPEC Jazz & Grooves organizes seasonal concerts in the fall and spring, featuring up-and-coming artists.
SPEC Pop Up hosts spontaneous pop up events throughout the year, giving away free food, gifts, and accessories.
SPEC Sound provides, maintains, and rents out sound equipment in order to service student groups on campus. Committee members are trained and paid to work as technicians for these events.
SPEC-TRUM (To Represent Undergraduate Minorities) puts on events varying from parties to concerts to comedy shows. SPEC-TRUM also co-sponsors a variety of events, providing financial support and planning assistance to minority groups on campus.
SPEC Spring Fling Concerts organizes the Spring Fling Concert in April, inviting artists to perform at Penn Park for nearly 5,000 students in attendance.
SPEC Spring Fling Daytime is in charge of planning the daytime portion of Spring Fling, the biggest festival on the East Coast. Filled with food, games and inflatables, Spring Fling is one of the most anticipated events of the year.
