

The Social Planning and Events Committee of the University of Pennsylvania is excited toannounce that Aware/Columbia Recording artist Guster will be joining Akon asthe opener for the 2009 Spring Fling Concert taking place at Franklin Field onApril 17, 2009.
Guster, through constant touring, has gained a loyal followingacross college campuses around the United States and abroad. The band wasformed in 1991 while the members were attending school at Tufts University. Theirfirst two albums, Parachutes and Goldfly, allowed the band tocreate a loyal underground following but by their 1999 release Lost and Gone Forever which featured the hit song “FaFa,” they broke into the national mainstream. Their fourth studio album Keep it Together spawned the hit “Amsterdam” and their2006 release Ganging Up on theSun peaked at number 25 onthe Billboard 200. The band is currently in the final stages of creating theirlatest studio album which will be released later this spring. Beyond theirstudio efforts, Guster has also gained a reputation as one of the hardest workingtouring bands in the industry, playing shows with everyone from John Mayer toDave Matthews Band. They have even been known to play over 250 shows someyears.
Coming to Penn alongside Guster will be the Campus ConsciousnessTour, a project of the non-profit organization Reverb, started by one ofGuster’s founding members, Adam Gardner. The Campus Consciousness Eco-Villagewill be set up in the Quad all day Friday and will feature information fromorganizations such as the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance and PlanetAid. Reverbwill also be partnering with the Penn Environmental Group(PEG) and Guster toraffle off signed guitars, a Specialized bike, and meet-and-greet passes for afew lucky students. Check out their booths on Junior Balcony Friday afternoonto win great prizes and learn about environmental initiatives.
Tickets for the 2009 Spring Fling Concert will goon sale onMonday, March 30th at10:00am EST. Tickets will be available on Locust Walk from 10am to 3pm Mondaythrough Friday until day of show (when they will be available in the Quad andat Franklin Field) as well as online at upenn.tickets.musictoday.com (a smallservice charge will apply). For the first time, students may pay with eitherCash or Penn Cash at the Locust Walk table and, as always, can use their creditcards to order tickets online. Tickets will be $30 in advance for Penn Students(w/ Penn ID), $35 in advance for the General Public, and all tickets will be$40 day of show. All tickets are general admission.
Like last year, a limited amount of wristbands granting access to the field area infront of the stage will be allocated to Penn students. A limited number will besold first come, first serve for an additional $10 at the Locust Walk tablestarting Monday, March 30th.Others will be given out for free via alottery at specevents.net. The lottery will be open starting Monday at http://www.specevents.net/lottery/lottery.php?id=1 and close on Friday, March 27th at11:59pm. One entry per Penn Card please. All winners will be notified onSunday, March 29ththat they received a pair of free wristbands,giving those who do not win the option of purchasing the floor access passes atthe Locust Walk table. Wristbandholders will need to purchase a ticket for entry into the concert. All wristbands (both thosepurchased and those won) will be distributed on Friday, April 17th in the Quad during Fling hours. Additionally, a limited number of wristbands will also be allocated throughpromotions in the coming weeks, including during Penn’s Relay for Life.
250 FlingSafe volunteers – a group of students who help promotesafe behavior during Spring Fling- will receive a free ticket to the concert.The application will be available at specevents.net through March 30th.
