SPEC Concerts has tapped comedian and Pennsylvania-nativeStephen Lynch for its annual fall show. Lynch will bring his unique blend ofmusic, comedy, and controversial lyrics to Irvine Auditorium on Friday, October17th for what promises to be a night of acoustic guitar fury and totallyabsurd hilarity. Lynch, who is performing without an opening act, will take thestage at 8:30; doors will open at 8.

Over the past decade, Stephen Lynch has made a name forhimself touring, not in the comedy club circuit, but instead in venues moresuitable for a rock show. Lynch is a Comedy Central stalwart and his 2000episode of “Comedy Central Presents…”is one of the highest rated in the series’ history. He has since gone on toappear in many other programs on the network and even starred in a secondepisode of “Comedy Central Presents…”in January of 2008. Lynch has released several albums, including a studio album“A Little Bit Special,” two live albums “Superhero” and “The Craig Machine,”and a DVD “Live at the El Rey.” He has shared the stage with many of theworld’s biggest comedians from Bob Saget to Jeff Foxworthy to Lewis Black tothe late Mitch Hedberg. In 2006, Lynch also received a Tony nomination for hisrole as Robbie Hart in the Broadway production of the Wedding Singer.

Lynch prefers to see himself more as a musician than acomedian, citing Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell as his childhood influences. AsScott Iles, Concerts Co-Director and College Junior put it, “He’s half rocker, half comedian, and one hell of an entertainer.” Concerts Co-Director andCollege Junior Preston Hershorn added that “This is going to be a great showwhether you are familiar with Lynch’s music or not. His show is all about gettingthe crowd to have fun; this is an evening people won’t want to miss.”

Tickets (all general admission) will go on sale Tuesday,September 30th at 11:00 AM on Locust Walk. Tickets can also bepurchased online at http://upenn.tickets.musictoday.com.Student tickets will cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door while a limitednumber of tickets for the general public will be available day of show for $25.Penn students are encouraged to buy early to ensure availability.
